Rotmaulsalmler ( Hemigrammus rhodostomus )

The Rotmaulsalmler ( Hemigrammus rhodostomus ) is a South American Salmlerart. He comes in the lower Amazon in the Brazilian state of Pará and in the Caura River, a tributary of the Orinoco River in Venezuela before.

Features

The Rotmaulsalmler has an elongated, laterally strongly flattened body and reaches a length of 4 cm to 5 cm. His back is brownish to olive, belly and sides greenish white to silvery. The front head is blood red in well-being, the iris silvery. A dark, backward becoming wider Längband starts behind the dorsal fin. The caudal fin is black and yellowish white banded. All other fins are colorless with white lace or light, greenish shimmer. Females are stockier and stronger than the males.
