Rune Gjeldnes

Rune Gjeldnes ( born May 20, 1971 in Surnadal ) is a Norwegian polar explorer and adventurer.

Life

The elite soldier finished his military training in 1992. During the same year, he met with Torry Larsen, who also hails from the province of Møre og Romsdal.

In 1994 she took the Umanaq - Isertoq expedition in Greenland. Between 19 March and 12 June 1996, succeeded both to cross Greenland lengthwise. They laid 2895 km in 86 days back without air support.

A year later Gjeldnes began planning for the Arctic Ocean 2000 expedition. Previously, he reached in May 1998, together with David Hempleman -Adams with The Prince's Trust North Pole expedition North Pole after a first failed attempt in 1997.

In 2000, he and Torry Larsen crossed first the Arctic Ocean without support from Severnaya Zemlya across the North Pole to Canada, while they laid back 2100 km in 109 days. The development of the special carriage for this expedition had lasted two years.

In 2001 he undertook a paddle through Venezuela.

From November 2005 to February 2006 crossed Rune Gjeldnes alone and without support Antarctica. The route went from Queen Maud Land, he conducted over the South Pole and ended in Victoria Land. Thus Rune Gjeldnes is the world's first to the Antarctic had crossed over the South Pole alone.
