Russell Watson

Russell Watson ( * November 24, 1966 in Salford, United Kingdom) is an English tenor.

Biography

Watson singing since childhood, but never hoped for a career as a professional singer, and therefore began to secure his income as a factory worker in Manchester. Since he had to support his family, he also began to earn money by singing songs of Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond in clubs and pubs.

The turning point of his career came one night in Wigan Road Working Men 's Club, as the Managing Director suggested that Watson could try Nessun dorma from Giacomo Puccini's opera to sing Turandot. Although he is not a professionally trained singer, he sang the aria several times and was encouraged to perform more classical vocal pieces.

In 1998 he was invited to sing at Old Trafford during a break of the game to commemorate the Munich air disaster - a great privilege for him because he is a fervent fan of Manchester United. His appearance was canceled at the last minute, as the player Eric Cantona Mick Hucknall invited to sing at Watson's location.

In 1999, he sang the national anthem at the Rugby Cup Final at Wembley, and finally at Old Trafford before the last game of the season the First League match between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. After the game won by his team he went back onto the field to sing the song Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé. Watson sang the theme song in 2001 Where My Heart Will Take Me for Star Trek: Enterprise one. The song was written by Diane Warren and sung in the original under the title Faith of the Heart as part of the soundtrack for the movie Patch Adams starring Robin Williams Rod Stewart.
