Reviews

Michael Wilmington in the Chicago Tribune wrote that "it is painful for him " was, to see the " big" comedian Robin Williams in this " uninspired " comedy.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times that he was nothing particularly negative attention, but there were little, what he would seriously recommend the comedy. Robin Williams WOULD convincing than when he was trying to be funny in the most serious moments.

" The fascinating thing about this film is that it serves almost every type of humor, but not really. Long stretches created as old-fashioned family fun, he does not shrink from Ekelgags back [ ... ] Really funny the comedy is only when the frustrated serenity of the Munros meets the jovial naivety of Gornickes. As their rustic clan chief shines a surprisingly virile Jeff Daniels ( Dumb and dumber ). In the U.S., the strenuous balancing act between Klokomik and family values was quite successful. Hopefully it is not the same as a new cinema trend. "

"Fade mix of adventure comedy and road movie with concessions to the coarse - sharp humor ' current entertainment films. Robin Williams can be moved between its tragedy and comedy role never fathom and flees into hollow pathos. "

" In any case, it shows on the screenplay by Geoff Rodkey, that he very soon the ideas have to be considered. Whole punch lines and situations repeat themselves. [ ... ] The swipes at corporate America do not have a bite, because the film too inconsistent formulated criticism of boundless profit thinking and a purely functional man. Were it not for Jeff Daniels ' strong showing as eternal good-humored flagship family man [ ... ], there remain hardly anything in the memory stick. This form of retrograde amnesia has at least the advantage that keeps the anger at a shamelessly mendacious happy ending within limits. "
