Sabina of Brandenburg-Ansbach

Sabina of Brandenburg- Ansbach ( born May 12, 1529 Ansbach, † November 2, 1575 in Berlin) was a Princess of Brandenburg -Ansbach and by marriage Electress of Brandenburg.

Life

Sabina was a daughter of the Margrave George of Brandenburg -Ansbach (1484-1543) from his second marriage with Hedwig (1508-1531), daughter of Duke Charles I of Münsterberg. The princess was brought up in the Lutheran faith of her stepmother Aemilia of Saxony.

Sabine married on February 12, 1548 in Ansbach Elector Johann Georg of Brandenburg ( 1525-1598 ). Its first wife Sophia of Legnica was a cousin of Sabine. The day before the wedding they had solemnly renounced their eventual paternal inheritance. As a jointure Sabine Office, City and Castle Plauen was prescribed. Since Plauen, like all offices Brandenburg was not free of debt, compensation Sabines was part of a long negotiations that led to the Sabine were also provided office and monastery Spandau prospect for their 12,000 florins dowry.

Sabina supported sick and poor and had regular personal contacts with the doctor Leonhard Thurneysser. Sabina was buried in the Cathedral of Berlin.

  • Anna Maria (1567-1618)
  • Sophie (1568-1622)

Two other princes and princesses five of this marriage died in infancy.
