Sabina Panzanini

Sabina Panzanini ( born February 16, 1972 in Merano, South Tyrol ) is an Italian former Alpine skier. Your special discipline was the giant slalom.

Career

Panzanini denied her first race at the age of eight years. In 1985, she won the Trofeo Topolino. The breakthrough in the world-class she succeeded in 1991, when at the Junior World Championships in Norway Geilo the title in the giant slalom won and was third in the slalom. In 1992, she was surprisingly Italian champion in giant slalom. With these successes in the back, they drove from the 1992/93 season in the Italian World Cup squad and celebrated right at the start of the season with a second place finish in the giant slalom at Steamboat Springs a successful debut.

In the following years, Panzanini established alongside teammates Deborah Compagnoni and Karen Putzer in the Italian giant slalom team. Between 1992 and 1997 their reach three World Cup victories, five more times she came in second. In the 1995/1996 season she reached the fourth place in the giant slalom discipline their best finish in the overall standings of the World Cup. Two back injuries in 1995 and 1996, and a serious leg injury in 1997 interrupted their athletic career.

For her home country, she took part twice in the Olympic Winter Games, 1994, she finished 15th in 1998 and eighth in the giant slalom. She took four times at world championships (1993, 1996, 1997 and 1999), but reached only once the target ( Fifth Place in Giant Slalom 1993). After the season 1999/2000 she retired from active competition.
