Sacy (grape)

The white grape Sacy is grown mainly in the French department of Yonne. It should have been imported by monks of the Abbey of Reigny of Italy in the 13th century. They also seem to be Tressallier identical to the vine. The more early maturing variety produces low-acid white wines with low alcohol content and light color. The wines are not storable.

In France, the clones 793, 833 and 965 are approved for cultivation of quality wines. Of the 100 hectares under vine are about 67 ha and 33 ha in the Yonne department in the department of Allier. Approved is the variety in the quality wine Crémant de Bourgogne and Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire and in VDQS wine Saint- Pourçain.

Origin

Due to genetic studies of 352 varieties in 1998 that the varieties Aligoté, Aubin Vert, Auxerrois, Bachet noir, Beaunoir, Chardonnay, Dameron, Franc Noir de la Haute Saône, Gamay Blanc Gloriod, Gamay, Knipperlé, Melon de Bourgogne turned out, Peurion, Romorantin and Roublot similar as well as the Sacy all originated from spontaneous crosses between Pinot Blanc and Gouais. Since the genetic differences between Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir are extremely low, there is a precise specification of the Pinot - type not yet available.

The success of these spontaneous crossing is explained that the two parent varieties are fundamentally different, genetically speaking. While the varieties of Pinot family believed to originate from Burgundy, the Gouais Blanc was brought by the Romans to France. In the Rebgärten of Burgundy and the southern Champagne both varieties were for some centuries in the Joint sentence.
