Saemangeum

The Saemangeum was a Wadden Sea in South Korea. In April 2006, a long -fought dam was completed, which is to convert the former Wadden Sea in an agriculturally and industrially used area. The area is located on the South Korean west coast at the mouth of the rivers Dongjin output and man- gyeonggang between the two cities Gunsan and Buan. It is part of the Yellow Sea.

The Watt

The dam

The Wadden Sea was an important resting place for migratory birds. During April and May of 2006, more than 198,000 birds were counted, there were in 2007, one year after completion of the dam, only 88,000.
