Sähkö Recordings

Sahko Recordings is a Finnish record label for techno and minimal techno.

History

Tommi Grönlund Sahko founded in 1993. The label name is the Finnish word for electricity. First publication was published by Mika Vainio under the alias Ø EP X ( Sahko -001). This was followed by releases from Panasonic ( Panasonic EP), Mike Ink ( Rosengranz ), Kirlian ( Porzellangasse Grooves Pt. 1) and Fred Giannelli ( Telepathic Romance ).

Sahko was also known for extremely minimalist, yet artfully designed record covers. So the first singles were released in simple silver record covers with small holes in the center of the plates. The design was inspired by musician Boyd Rice, who had provided his records also by drill additional holes.

In 1994, the sublabel Puu was founded, which is operated by Jimi Tenor, and more devoted to the genres House, Easy Listening and Jazz.

With Keys Of Life another Sahko sublabel was founded in 1999, with the publication of Roberto Rodriguez, Freestyle Man, Acid Kings Jori Hulkkonen or devoted exclusively to the House genre.

Grönlund in 2001 founded the sublabel Jazzpuu on the published among other jazz musicians Ahvenlahti Olli, Eero Koivistoinen, Jukka Tolonen or Heikki Sarmanto trio.
