Saint-Affrique

Saint- Affrique is a commune with 8259 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the south of the department of Aveyron.

Geography

The village lies in the valley of the river Sorgue, on the edge of the Causses of Larzac plateau. Saint- Affrique located between Millau and Albi, 15 km from Roquefort -sur- Soulzon, the place of origin of the blue-veined cheese Roquefort away.

History

The city got its name from the Holy Affrique who allegedly died here in the 6th century. His sarcophagus is in the parish church from the 19th century.
