Saint Botvid

Botvid (* at Södertörn, † 1120 on the island Rogö, Sweden) was a Swedish, Catholic saint and with Eskil, the second patron saint of Södermanland.

As the son of pagan parents born at Södertörn, he should have become on a trading voyage to England Christian and has operated in the follow-on mission in Sweden. A free, bought from him and taught in Christian doctrine Wendish slave whom he wanted to send a missionary to his home is said to have killed him with an ax on the island Rogö in Mälaren.

His remains are today in the Church of Botkyrka, which was built as Botvidakirkia his brother. The place was later called, by extension, Botkyrka, and also the church today bears Botvid in their coat of arms.
