Saint-Martin-de-Bienfaite-la-Cressonnière

Saint -Martin -de- la Bien Faite Cressonnière is a commune with 519 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Calvados in the Basse -Normandie; it belongs to the arrondissement Lisieux and Canton Orbec.

History

Bien Faite ( as the medieval name) was a Norman fief, which was owned by the Clare family, a branch line of the Rolloniden in the 11th and 12th centuries. The most significant owner was Richard de Bien Faite († 1090 ), who was temporarily Regent of England. End of the 12th century came Bien Faite by marriage to William Marshal, 3rd Earl of Pembroke. At the conquest of Normandy by King Philip II Augustus came to France in 1204.
