Saints Cyril and Methodius

Life
Cyril ( Κύριλλος ), which was originally named Constantine ( Κωνσταντῖνος ) and Methodius ( Mεθόδιος ), who was baptized as Michael, were born around the year 827 or 815 in Thessaloniki in the former Eastern Roman Empire.
The two brothers were ordained to the priesthood and moved to Constantinople Opel. Constantine was there a librarian in the Hagia Sophia and Methodius entered a monastery. To 861 the brothers of the Emperor Michael III were. sent as missionaries to the Khazars who lived between the Dnieper and the Volga.
Constantine and Methodius translated much of the Bible (probably especially the four Gospels and the Book of Psalms ), and liturgical texts from Greek into Slavonic, which is called Old Church Slavonic in the form used for this text. Konstantin worked a copy of which Glagolitic script to record the translations. The Cyrillic alphabet, however, is named after him. However, in today's opinion, it is not from him, but was in the 10th century in Eastern Bulgaria from the Greek alphabet through the acquisition of Glagolitic letters for the sounds that did not exist in the Greek.
863 were Constantine and Methodius at the request of the Great Moravian Prince Rastislav by the Byzantine Emperor Michael III. sent on mission to Great Moravia. Method reached later in Rome to confirm his mission by the pope and was ordained a 869 for the first Moravian archbishop.
Constantine was 868 seriously ill and entered a monastery in Rome. There he took the religious name Cyril. He died on 14 February 869
Method was according to tradition a few years in a German monastery, possibly being held captive on the island of Reichenau or in Ellwangen. He died on April 6, 885 or 886, allegedly in Weligrad in Moravia. His grave has not been found to date.
Saint
In the Orthodox Churches Cyril and Methodius are venerated as saints and Apostles of the Slavs in the Middle Ages. Your orthodox observances are May 11 and July 17 for both Saints, February 14 for Cyril and Methodius on April 6.

In Eastern and Southeastern Europe, many public facilities, places or churches bear the name of the two Apostles of the Slavs. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences awards the annual Cyril and Methodius Award.
