Salisbury (District)

Salisbury was a District in the county of Wiltshire in England. He was after the city of Salisbury, who was also the administrative center, named. Other important towns were Alderbury, Amesbury, Bulford, Durrington, Redlynch, Winterslow and Wilton ( the former capital of the county). The traditional city of Salisbury law extended only to about one -sixtieth of the whole territory. In Amesbury is the world-famous Stonehenge.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the Municipal Boroughs New Sarum (Salisbury ) and Wilton and the Rural Districts Amesbury, Mere and Tisbury and Salisbury and Wilton.

On 1 April 2009 in addition to all other districts in Salisbury Wiltshire were abolished and incorporated into the new unitary authority of Wiltshire.
