Sally Ann Howes

Sally Ann Howes ( born July 20, 1930 in St. John 's Wood, London) is a British actress in theater, film and television. In addition to her long career on Broadway, she appeared in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, and female lead roles in movies such as Anna Karenina, Look before you leap, states like paradise or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Life and career

Sally Ann Howes, born 1930 in St. John 's Wood, London, grew up in a show business family. Her mother was Patricia Malone, her father was the well-known British comedian and actor Bobby Howes. Her grandfather was the Broadway director Capt. JAE Malone. At the age of twelve years, Sally had his first screen test for the film and only a year later, at age 13, she got her first starring role in Rodney Acklands Drama Thursday's Child. In the 1940s, followed for Sally Ann Howes further major supporting roles in British films like Dead of Night, pharmacist Sutton or Nicholas Nickleby. 1948 saw them directed by Julien Duvivier in the film adaptation of Anna Karenina, starring prominently occupied with Vivien Leigh, Ralph Richardson and Kieron Moore. This led to further engagements in musicals including an 18-month contract for the musical Paint Your Wagon, where she appeared alongside her father Bobby Howes on Majesty's Theatre. 1958 took over the role of Eliza Doolittle in the Broadway performance of the musical My Fair Lady Sally Ann Howes by Julie Andrews.

Since the 1950s, she also starred in numerous TV movies and popular TV shows with, among others, in episodes of Buick Electra Playhouse, The United States Steel Hour, Journey Into Fear, Cobra, accept, Bracken 's World, The Men from Shiloh Ranch or Marcus Welby, MD. Your last TV appearance was in 1992 in ( TV mini- series) Secrets.

In addition to her long career on Broadway includes Sally Ann Howes film career some 40 international movies, TV films and TV series. Since 1973 she is married in fourth marriage to Douglas Rae. She was previously married to, among others, the American composer Richard Adler 1958-1966.
