Salvatore Licitra

Salvatore Licitra ( born August 10, 1968 in Bern, Switzerland; † 5 September 2011 in Catania, Italy ) was an Italian tenor. Many music fans saw him as already a " successor " of the late 2007 Italian star tenor Luciano Pavarotti.

Life

In 1970 his parents returned from Switzerland to Italy. Licitra began as a graphic designer, as he initially had doubts whether enough his vocal skills for the profession of the singer. He studied singing at the Accademia Verdiana in Parma and debuted in 1998 at the city's Teatro Regio as Gustavo in Un ballo in maschera, a role he sang once again at the Arena di Verona in the same year. Here he sang in the episode roles such as Pinkerton ( Madama Butterfly ), Radames ( Aida ) and Manrico ( Il trovatore ). In 1999 he first appeared as Don Alvaro (La forza del destino ) at La Scala in Milan. He also sang Manrico in Il trovatore a new production of the start of the season 2000. Conductor Riccardo Muti dedicated Licitra, but emphasized the high C in the aria Di quella pira. The spectators were disappointed and booed. Six months later Licitra sang the aria in Verona with two high Cs and then had to give encores because the audience wanted to hear his high notes again and again.

In the spring of 2002, he jumped two hours before the performance begins and for the indisposed Luciano Pavarotti at New York's Metropolitan Opera. His debut as Cavaradossi in Puccini's Tosca at this house marked the international breakthrough for him. Ask for his performance, especially for the arias Recondita armonia and E lucevan le he got a standing ovation.

In the first quarter of 2001, he took solo pieces on the CD, which served as the music for the film The Man Who Cried. In addition to his CD The Debut, also known as E lucevan le stelle came out later, even more DVDs were produced with him in various opera roles.

Marcelo Álvarez he took the CD / DVD Duetto on a compilation specifically for the two tenors composed songs besides a few opera arias ( È lucevan le stelle as a solo by Licitra ). The music was recorded in a concert at the Colosseum in Rome. Later there was an appearance in New York. In the duet Odissea eight high Cs are included which overcame both singers with flying colors.

Salvatore Licitra was restrained with television appearances and recordings.

Accident in Sicily

27 August 2011 Licitra went near Ragusa on the island of Sicily with a scooter as a result of sustained while driving brain strike against a wall. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe injuries to the skull, face and chest; his passenger was slightly injured. On the same day Licitra was performed emergency surgery in hospital Garibaldi in Catania, however, on September 5, 2011, he succumbed to his injuries.
