Sam Michael

Sam Michael ( born April 29, 1971) is an Australian engineer and designer of racing cars in Formula 1

Michael grew up in Canberra and studied at the University of New South Wales in Sydney engineering. He took while studying in touch with Gregg Siddle, the former manager of Nelson Piquet and Roberto Moreno, on which at that time owned a racing team in the Australian Formula Holden. Siddle gave Michael in parallel to study a job in his team and commended him after the end of his compatriot Peter Collins, who worked at that time for Lotus in Formula 1.

In 1993, Michael to Norfolk to work on the side of Peter Wright in the development department of Lotus to data acquisition and race simulation. After the end of the Lotus team in 1994, he moved to Jordan, where he was first again responsible for data collection at the race track and 1996 directed the establishment of the Department of Research and Development. In 1998, Michael and Ralf Schumacher 's race engineer after his move to Williams from Heinz -Harald Frentzen, with whom he won two races in 1999.

In 2000, Michael as chief engineer at Williams and Patrick Head took over in 2004 by the post of Technical Director. From the 2012 season, he is sporting director at McLaren.
