Sami Kapanen

Sami Hannu Antero Kapanen ( born June 14, 1973 in Vantaa, Finland ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who currently plays as an attacker at the KalPa Kuopio.

He is also co-owner of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association KalPa.

Career

Kapanen began his career in his homeland with the club KalPa in 1990 in the SM- liiga and played there until 1994. Afterwards he moved to the Finnish also HIFK Helsinki.

At the 1994 Winter Olympics Kapanen played for the Finnish national team and won the bronze medal with her.

In the NHL Entry Draft 1995 Kapanen was selected in the fourth round as 87th of the Hartford Whalers. His first NHL season was 1995-96, in which he played 35 games for the Whalers. In 1997, the Hartford Whalers to Carolina Hurricanes, played for the Kapanen six seasons long.

At the 1998 Winter Olympics Kapanen came back with the Finnish national team, winning a bronze medal.

Also at the 2002 Winter Olympics, he participated with Finland. But this time there was only enough for sixth place.

On February 7, 2003 Kapanen was traded along with Ryan Bast against Pavel Brendl and Bruno St. Jacques of the Philadelphia Flyers. In Philadelphia he was his good performance, he has shown in Carolina, do not continue.

During the NHL lockout in the 2004-05 season he was playing for the Finnish team KalPa, this time in the Mestis.

After the end of the lockout Kapanen returned to the Philadelphia Flyers.
