Jussi Timonen

Jussi Timonen ( born June 29, 1983 in Kuopio ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since 2008 in KalPa Kuopio in the SM- liiga under contract. His older brother Kimmo is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Jussi Timonen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of KalPa Kuopio, for his first team, he made his debut in the third-class Suomi- sarja in the 2000 /01 season and with whom he instantly recognizable as a third league champion in the Mestis, the Finnish second division, climb. After another year at KalPa in the Mestis, the defender joined the top club TPS Turku of the SM- liiga. With TPS, he was in season 2003/ 04 runners-up. Parallel to the game mode in the SM- liiga with TPS, Timonen ran in the two years in which he stood there under contract to one for each season for the second division TuTo hockey and Mikkelin Jukurit. With Jukurit he finished 2004 ranked second in the Mestis.

From 2004 to 2006, Timonnen prevailed at Jokerit in the SM- liiga Lappeenranta and to fight for a regular place. Then he was taken by the Philadelphia Flyers under contract who had originally chosen him already in the NHL Entry Draft in 2001 in the fifth round as the 146th overall player. In the 2006/07 season, the Finn was in 14 games for the Flyers in the National Hockey League on the ice and handed four assists in those games. The majority of the playing time he spent, however, in their farm team, the Philadelphia Phantoms in the American Hockey League. After he started the following season with the Phantoms in the AHL, the Flyers transferred the former youth international players to their league rivals Dallas Stars, but he could not prevail there and ran until the end of season exclusively for their AHL farm team Iowa Stars on.

In summer 2008, Timonen returned to Finland and played for his hometown club since KalPa Kuopio, who had risen in the meantime in the SM- liiga.

Internationally

For Finland, Timonen took part in the U18 World Youth Championship in 2001 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 2003. In both tournaments he won the bronze medal with his respective team.
