San Nicolás de los Arroyos

San Nicolás de los Arroyos is a city in the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina. It has about 140,000 inhabitants and is both a port and industrial city (metal industry, agro-industry ) as well as a place of pilgrimage known.

Geography

San Nicolás de los Arroyos is situated about 230 kilometers north- west of the capital Buenos Aires on Paraná within the so-called industrial corridor in Argentina, extending from the Greater Rosario to La Plata. The city is surrounded by the so-called Pampa ondulada, which is in contrast to the rest of the Pampa is not completely flat, but slightly hilly.

History

San Nicolás de los Arroyos was founded on April 14, 1748 by Rafael de Aguiar, who named the city after Saint Nicholas of Bari, today's patron saint.
