San Rafael Municipality, Santa Cruz

The municipality of San Rafael is a district in the department of Santa Cruz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality of San Rafael is one of three Municipalities of the province of José Miguel de Velasco. It is bordered to the west by the municipality of San Miguel, on the south by the province of Chiquitos, in the east by the province Ángel Sandoval, and on the north by the municipality of San Ignacio de Velasco.

The municipality extends between about 16 ° 23 'and 17 ° 17' south latitude and 59 ° 27 'and 60 ° 54 ' west longitude, its extension from west to east is up to 150 kilometers from north to south up to 80 kilometers.

The municipality comprises 20 municipalities ( Localidades ), central location of the municipality is the town of San Rafael de Velasco country with 2,912 inhabitants in the central western part of the district ( update 2010).

Geography

The municipality of San Rafael is located in the Bolivian lowlands in the region Chiquitanía, a partially unspoilt countryside between Santa Cruz and the Brazilian border.

The region's climate is a semi- humid climate of the warm tropics. The average monthly temperatures vary during the year only slightly between 20.8 ° C in June and 26.8 ° C in October, where they are almost constant from September to March at 26 ° C. 69.9 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 22.4 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

57.9 percent of the 731 households have a radio, 25.6 percent have a television, 39.0 percent a bicycle, a motorcycle 8.3 percent, 7.7 percent, a car, a refrigerator 11.4 percent, and 2.3 percent a telephone. (2001)
