St. Georgen near Gries churches (including St. Georgen near Gries churches ) is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Gries district churches in Hausruckviertel with 1225 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Gries churches.

Geography

St. Georgen near Gries churches located on 396 m altitude in Hausruckviertel. The highest point in the village of Steindlberg with a height of 517 meters. The expansion is 4.5 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 5.9 km. The total area is 11.3 km ². 14.2 % of the area is forested, 77.9 % of the area is used for agriculture.

History

Originally in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria lying, was the place since the 12th century the Duchy of Austria. Since 1490 he is the Principality of Austria above the Enns attributed. During the Napoleonic wars the place was occupied several times and was from 1810 to 1816 the Kingdom of Bavaria. Since 1918, the town belongs to the province of Upper Austria. Coat of arms

Blazon: Between two silver flanks with three blue, separated by two red bars split balls of silver and black with two upright, with the outwardly facing cutting coulters ( Coulter ) in reversed colors. The municipality colors are red, white and black.

The coat of arms granted in 1984 combines elements from the coats of arms of two major St. Georgen noble families. The black and silver plow blades are the arms of the Jörger that here had their headquarters, founded the parish and are buried in the parish church. The blue balls and red bars are the arms of the family Revertera taken, the owner of the castle was Tollet in the 19th and 20th centuries and has also in the church of St. Georgen their grave lay.
