Grieskirchen

Gries churches is a town in Hausruckviertel in Upper Austria with 4820 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ), and the district capital of the district of Gries churches. The competent court of the judicial district Gries churches and the District Commission are located in the city.

Geography

History

Griezkirichen 1075 as the property of Passau monastery of St. Nikola, belonging to the diocese of Passau, first mentioned. Culture and sights

  • The country castle PARZ with significant external frescoes is one of the most stately Renaissance castles in Upper Austria and together with the associated water castle PARZ a closed ensemble. About 400 years ago the south facade of the castle was equipped with extensive frescoes, which were painted over a few years ago of Baroque painting, and were discovered only in 1987 as part of renovations.
