Santana is the debut album by the Latin rock band Santana from San Francisco. It was released in August 1969, shortly after the band's performance at the Woodstock Festival with Columbia Records.

The album

Since its founding as The Santana Blues Band, the band had a reputation as a live band in the Bay Area and one of the master tape in Bill Graham's Fillmore West. The appearance of the band in Woodstock was one of the most exciting of the festival. Thus, there are on the album largely improvised acting instrumental pieces from the former live program of the band, as well as two cover versions, and Jingo Evil Ways both of which were selected for single release. The album is already the typical Santana percussion -heavy, dominated by rock guitar and organ sounds, Latin Rock to hear

The cover that shows a lion's head, whose face is formed of human heads and bodies, had Lee Conklin in 1968 originally for a concert series at the Fillmore West, in addition to Santana and a. Grateful Dead appeared, created. Following a request Carlos Santana, it was used as the album cover.

Reception

Santana reached # 4 on the Billboard 200 and the single Evil Ways the Top Ten of the singles charts. The previously published song Jingo was less successful.
