Santos de Guápiles

AD Santos de Guápiles is a football club from Guápiles, Canton Pococí, Limón Province, Costa Rica, which Costa Rican in the highest league, the Primera División de Costa Rica plays.

History

1961 decided some amateur soccer player from Guápiles to create a club. Since the same year, the Brazilian club Santos FC played two friendly matches with the legendary Pele in Costa Rica, the footballer named their new club, they founded in November 10 of the same year, Santos de Guápiles.

In the early years, Santos played in the third amateur league, later in the second.

1997 Santos rose in the Liga de Ascenso - Segunda División on. For the second year in the second division, in 1999, succeeded the AD Santos in the top flight, the Primera División de Costa Rica ascend. There, the club remained nine years, until 2008 Santos again relegated to the second division. Thanks to the immediate resurgence Santos is again first class since 2009.

In the years joined Santos several times as the club name, the club was now also Santos FC and Pococí 2000. The club structure changed several times, he once belonged to the cantonal Sports Committee, sometimes he was a private club. Currently Santos is a semi- private club. The club is indeed back in the possession of the Canton Pococí, but is run by shareholders.

Stadium

AD Santos de Guápiles plays its home matches at the 3,000 -seat Estadio Ebal Rodríguez. On special occasions such as the finals in the Verano 2012 the capacity of the stadium will be expanded with Behilfstribünen up to 6000 seats.
