Sarıyahşi

Sarıyahşi is a city and a small district in the Turkish province of Aksaray. The district has 6,304 inhabitants, of which 4,517 live in the city (as of 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in Central Anatolia Sarıyahşi between the capital Ankara and Aksaray in the vicinity of the Salt Lake Tuzgölü at Sereflikochisar. Until June 15, 1989, the city Sarıyahşi to Ankara province belonged since the Aksaray Province. The market town Bogazköy and the villages Sipahiler, Yaylak, Demirciobası, Yenitorunobası and Bekdik belong to the city Sarıyahşi. The distance from Sarıyahşi to Aksaray is about 100 km, to Sereflikochisar about 30 km.

History

Founding of the city Sarıyahşi

According to local tradition, the city was founded approximately 22-24 generations ago by members of the tribe Halaçlılar, who was a survivor in the 13th century in its current Iran Turkish tribe. Since the Halaçlılar were nomads, they wandered about in 1330 about Kırşehir after Sarıyahşi and settled there.

Name

According to the book Şerefli Koçhisar Tarihi (translated: The Story of Sereflikochisar ), the city has Sarıyahşi its name from a Turkish soldier named Yahşi Han, who died when he wounded a soldier went by Sarıyahşi. Up to this time the name of Sarıyahşi only Sari was. In the book there is a picture of Yahşi Han and his Türbe ( grave ). Translated is Sari = yellow.

Attractions

In Sarıyahşi there is a healing water source with hot running water. This water source is called İçmece. This source is located between Sarıyahşi and Bekdik. There are efforts to make a thermal bath from this source. In Sarıyahşi there are also numerous caves and hiking trails.

Economy

The majority of the inhabitants of Sarıyahşi is employed in agriculture.

Schools and Education

The first school called alphabet, there were in 1929. The sign of the school was written with the old and new alphabet. The school building was built of adobe bricks. At present there are Sarıyahşi two primary schools, one junior high school, a high school, a vocational school and a kindergarten.
