Sauber C18
The Sauber C18 was established in 1999, Formula 1 racing car of Red Bull Sauber Petronas in Hinwil. Was constructed of C18 by Leo Ress, who was between 1985 and 2002 Chief Designer of the team.
Technology
In the 600 -pound race car had driven a monocoque made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and has a Petronas SPE -03A V10 engine with just under 3000 cc. Thus, the C18 had a total output of 556 kW ( 755 hp) at 16,700 rpm ..
The electronics have been supplied by Italian automotive company Magneti Marelli, the tire by the then single tire manufacturer Bridgestone.
Driver
Throughout the season the C18 was driven exclusively by the two regular drivers Jean Alesi of France and Pedro Diniz from Brazil. Test driver engaged Peter Sauber not this year. It was surprising that the experienced Alesi lost the team-internal duel with the Brazilian Paydriver with two to three points.
Advertising and painting
Main sponsors were the Malaysian oil company Petronas and the Austrian beverage company Red Bull
The painting was very similar to that of previous years. Inspired by the colors of the main sponsors of the lower part of the chassis in Petronas cyan, the upper in Redbull blue was kept. Also, the yellow shade of the nose was the same as that of the beverage manufacturer.
Despite the sponsorship by Petronas in the related car lubricants from Shell were asked.
