Savage Grace (Metal-Band)

Savage Grace is an American speed and power metal band from Los Angeles, California that was founded in 1981 under the name Marquis De Sade and disbanded in 1988. Since 2009, the band is active again.

History

The band was founded in 1981 under the name Marquis De Sade and consisted of guitarist Chris Logue, bassist Brian East, drummer Dan Finch III and singer Kelly Rhoads, brother of the unfortunate guitarist Randy Rhoads. In the summer of 1982 the band recorded under their new name Savage Grace on a first demo, with Dwight Cliff was represented as a new singer. The song Scepters of Deceit of this demo was to be heard in the same year on the compilation Metal Massacre II. This was followed by appearances along with Exodus, Abattoir and Armored Saint on. At the time John Birk came as the new singer for the band while Kenny Powell, another guitarist was taken added. In 1983, the self-financed EP The Domina Tress appeared on Metal Blade Records. The band consisted of bassist Brian thereto East, drummer Dan Finch III, guitarist Chris Logue and Kenny Powell and singer John Birk. After a few performances, among others, along with Exodus and Slayer, Birk and Powell left the band again. Birk had experienced only through a radio interview the band of his retirement. Powell founded the band Omen in spring 1984. In the early summer of 1984, Mike Smith was presented as a replacement for Birk. On the 1985 debut album Master of Disguise Mark Marshall (ex - Agent Steel ) was represented as a new guitarist after Kurt Philips had briefly played in the band's electric guitar. In the autumn of 1985 the band played at the Loreley Festival in Germany for the first time, what also groups such as Venom and Metallica took part. Here, Smith was no longer in the band, which is why guitarist Logue now took over the vocals. Finch drummer left the band a little later for health reasons and was replaced by Mark Marcum. In 1986 came the second album, After the Fall from Grace. After completed a European tour along with Heir Apparent, with Savage Grace their bassist with the band swapped, so Derek Peace joined the band as a new member for Brian East. The performances in Germany were due to the taking place at this time World Cup very poorly attended. After that, the band began their work on the third album, but never appeared. Instead, they released the EP Ride into the Night, as, according to Logue not enough material would have been present for an album. On the EP, a cover version of Deep Purple's Burn was included among others. In 1988, the group split up. Peace came after Heir Apparent in again.

In 2009, Logue founded the band with a completely new cast changed. In 2010, the band played, among others, in Athens on The Hammers Festival and the German Keep It True .. With this lineup, a new Savage Grace was planned album to which it was not realized anymore because Logue during the preparations under dubious circumstances Germany has left for an unknown destination. The pre-written songs appeared then in 2013 under the band name Masters of Disguise with another singer.

Style

The band is one of the first representatives of the speed metal range. On their EP The Domina Tress, the band played classical speed metal, which was interspersed with rest. The classic speed metal style of the band featured continued on their debut album Master of Disguise, with the use of double bass was typical before the group on the second album was catchy and melodic. In Slayer fanzine Master of Disguise was referred to as melodic thrash metal à la omen. On their EP Ride into the Night, the band was still melodic compared to the previous album.
