Saxony Landtag elections in the Weimar Republic

In this article you will find all election results and state governments in Saxony from 1919 to today.

In the Weimar Republic until 1930 was always the SPD the most successful party in Saxony.

After the Second World War there was only a semi-free state election in 1946.

After the incorporation of Saxony in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1990 state elections, see again regularly (currently every five years distance) instead. The choice for the 6th Saxony state parliament will probably take place on 31 August 2014.

State election results

1919-1933

At 100 % Missing = Not represented in the parliament election proposals.

1933-1945

With the " Temporary Law on Equal of the states with the kingdom " of 31 March 1933, the sovereignty of the countries has ended.

1945-1990

After the Second World War, the state of Saxony was formed anew from the former Free State of Saxony and the west of the Neisse -lying parts of the former Prussian province of Lower Silesia. The parliamentary elections on October 20, 1946 resulted in a victory of the beneficiary of the Soviet occupying power SED.

As the concurrent sham election of the People's Chamber elected by the unit list method - In the state election on 15 October 1950. According to the official results received with a voter turnout of 98.1 %, the "candidate of the National Front " 99.8 % approval.

1952 Saxony was dissolved in the wake of the formation of districts.

Provincial governments

In 1990, Kurt Biedenkopf the first Saxon state government. He relied solely on the absolute majority of the CDU in parliament. This majority has been confirmed in the state elections in 1994 and 1999. 2002 Kurt Biedenkopf resigned after some internal party disputes and gave the office on April 18 to Georg Milbradt from. This remained even after the 2004 election, Prime Minister, however, the CDU lost in this election an absolute majority, so that Milbradt had to rely on a coalition partner. The CDU entered into a coalition with the SPD. Deputy Prime Minister was the SPD regional chairman Thomas Jurk. On 28 May 2008, Stanislaw Tillich, was elected as the new prime minister. After the state elections in 2009 Tillich formed a government with the FDP with Sven Morlok as his deputy.
