Sázava (Benešov District)

Sázava ( German Sasau ) is a town with 3773 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is situated in 312 m asl 40 km southeast of Prague and 12 km west of the city Uhlířské Janovice in the valley of the Sázava and belongs to the Okres Benešov on. The land area is 2041 ha

Geography

The city is located in a loop of the river opposite the mouth of the creek on the left side of the Úžický Sázava that they wrap around the east, north and west. Neighboring towns are The Black Budy in the West, Nechyba and Radvanice nad Sázavou the north and Budín in the southeast.

History

Origin of the present-day city was the foundation of the monastery of St. Prokop on the right bank of the Sázava in the year 1032. On the opposite bank was established in the 13th century a monastery belonging to the settlement.

After the dissolution of the monastery in 1785 was converted into a neo-Renaissance. 1837 founded Franz Kavalier Glassworks, now under the name " Cavalier as" represents the most important companies in the city.

To town Sázava include the districts Bělokozly ( Bielokosel ), The Black Budy ( monastery village), Čeřenice ( Tscherschenitz ) and Dojetřice ( Dojetritz ).
