Scaled Composites White Knight
White Knight (Model 318) is the name of the carrier aircraft, which transports the spacecraft SpaceShipOne to an altitude of about 15 kilometers before it is notched out there. It starts doing like a normal aircraft and carries the space glider into the air. The aircraft has been used as a carrier for the test of the experimental space aircraft atmospheric X -37.
It was designed and built by Burt Rutan and his company Scaled Composites Tier One part of the project.
The name White Knight is from a drawing of an employee of Scaled Composites, which shows a knight with white armor. The drawing has also been used as the emblem of the aircraft.
