Schleicher ASW 27

The Schleicher ASW 27 is a high performance glider for the FAI 15 -meter class with 15 meters wingspan in modern fiber composite construction. Manufacturer of the ASW 27 is the Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co. The designer Gerhard Waibel controlled, as in Schleicher usual, the first letter of his last name "W" to the model number at. First flight was on April 3, 1995.

It was the successor model of the ASW 20 - Designed without compromise for the 15 -meter class - based on the hull of the ASW 24 with a new, nine -square-foot wing. The design was optimized for this span and new large winglets, without having to take into consideration for a possible range extension or the installation of an engine. It is equipped with flaps, retractable landing gear and water ballast. In the very thin wings triple brakes were installed only after the top deploying.

The light SL version has an empty weight of 230 kilograms.

Features

Impressive for this pattern: 17 years after its first flight, the ASW was 27 in 2012 at the World Gliding Championship in the U.S. amerikanischern Uvalde vice-champion.
