Geography
Melting is in the nordsaarländischen mountain and hill country ( about 200 to 430 m above sea level. NN ). The village lies on the prims. Melting is the most populous municipality in the northern Saarland (~ 17,500 inhabitants).
Community structure
The place is divided into enamel ( outer and Bettingen with Goldbach ), Hüttersdorf ( with Buprich ), Limbach, Michel Bach, Primsweiler and village in Bohnental.
History
The municipality melting has only existed since April 1, 1937. On January 1, 1974, the previously independent municipalities village, Hüttersdorf, Limbach (district Saarlouis ), Michel Bach and Primsweiler were added.

Economy and infrastructure
Traffic
Through the community melting the federal highway 268 which connects among other things, the capital of the Saarland (Saarbrücken ) with the located in Rhineland- Palatinate Trier runs. Bettinger mill
- The cultural monument Bettinger mill is a mill with mill Ensemble Building, House, Workshop, Backhaus and barn, which is produced by the Association for the Preservation of Bettinger mill as a cultural center again.
- The Muhlenberg in Bettingen is probably the remains of a medieval motte.
- The Außener bell tower is a tower of a former choir, possibly Romanesque church from the 12th century. It has been restored and is now used for religious purposes ( Location: melting, Robert-Koch -Straße).
- The natural monument thickness oak is a 380 year old oak tree in the Great Horst. The tree is a relic of the center forest management, which was operated until about 1850.
- The Old church in Limbach consists of four components, which have been built at different times. The oldest of these four parts is the late Romanesque tower. In addition to a similar tower in the nearby community Siersburg exists throughout the district Saarlouis no building of any kind, which reached a similarly high age. In the book The Monuments of the circle and the circle Saarlouis Ottweiler the 13th century is given as the date of composition. - The chapel on Marienfried ( Renges ) was built in 1949 and inaugurated in 1950. Was built the chapel in gratitude, because there were no injuries during an air attack on a crowded passenger train.
