The Black Lake is located south of Mirow, in the south of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the Mecklenburg Lake District. The Black Lake is part of the south located from Mirow chain of lakes from Zotzensee, Vilzsee, Zethner Lake and Black Lake.

It is about 2.6 km long and between 200 and 950 meters wide. The lake goes into the Zethner Sea to the south.

The lake has an unarticulated, wooded eastern shore ( the Holm Peninsula) and a more structured mostly unbewaldetes west bank with multiple bays. The ridge on the east bank almost reach the hundred meter mark. On the west bank is also the place black with a small offshore island.
