Schwifting is a community in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech and a member of the administrative community Pürgen.

Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality is located four kilometers east of Landsberg in the rißeiszeitlichen moraines and würmeiszeitlichen Geröllanschüttungen located between Lech and bunting.

History

In the documents of the monastery was first mentioned Benediktbeuren Schwifting 987. Schwifting belonged to the secularisation Klosterrotte book. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

Population Development

On the territory of the municipality were 1970 578, 1987, 616 and 2000 counted 778 inhabitants in the year.

Policy

The mayor is Richard Schaller (Citizens Community ). In 2002 he became the successor of Benedict Brandmeir (Citizens Community ) in the year.

The council has eight members, these consist of the 2002 elections and 2008 candidates exclusively from the civil community together.

The municipal tax revenue amounted to the equivalent of 349 k € in 1999, which amounted to the trade tax revenues ( net) equivalent to € 53k.

The coat of arms description reads: Split of gold and red; forward a siebenblätterige silver book Staude, indicating the former belonging to Klosterrotte book, back from a three green mountain growing black Capricorn, symbolizing the regional location in the foothills of the Alps.

Natural Monuments

A natural monument in Schwifting is the Marienlinde, a 400 year old lime tree with a trunk circumference of 8.80 meters and a 25 meter high crown. The tree was uprooted in part, during a storm on 29 July 2005, and has since been plunged by almost horizontally, but still drives every year from new. The conservation authority withdrew the Linde after the fall of the status of the natural monument. 2005, standing on municipal land Linde should be removed, since the tree is to be obtained, not least by the will of Schwiftinger citizens.
