Seattle Slew

Seattle Slew (* February 15, 1974; † 7 May 2002) was an American racehorse who won the 1977 Triple Crown horse racing, only the tenth horse, featured on the list. It was the only horse that achieved this goal unbeaten.

He was born on the White Horse Acres Farm by Ben Castleman near Lexington. Father was Bold Reasoning My Charmer mother. You did not expect that he was a major racehorse. Its name stemmed from the city of Seattle from, where its owners, Karen and Mickey Taylor herstammten, and from the word Slough for a wind in the Pacific would be too difficult to remember, and so used the word slew.

He started his career on 20 September 1976 in Maiden Special Weight race over 1207 meters, the fifth race at Belmont Park in New York. He was a big, strong, almost black two year old horse and almost unknown. His previous successful test race reflected in the rates not resist, he was rated 10 to 1, and nobody expected his victory. But the audience knew better and were set as the bets fit you to the ratio to 2 to 1. When the race started, he was a favorite with 5 to 2 He showed the audience his "war dance ", a kind of Prance, which was typical of his behavior before the race. He then gained prominence with five lengths.

In 1977 he was Horse of the Year, and he was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

After his racing career he devoted himself to the Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky, reproduction. In 1984 he was the leading sire. In that year his son Swale won the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes but died in the same year. Among his descendants were also the talented but injury-prone Landaluce; Horse of the Year A. P. Indy, and the champion of the two- year-old Surfside, whose mother was the champion Flanders. His genes were the most by A. P. Indy passed, which also provided in Kentucky for offspring. Horse of the Year Mineshaft was one of his successful offspring, but not the only one. His daughters were very successful in breeding. One brought the thoroughbred Cigar to the world who has earned so far in horse racing the most money.
