Segue 1

Segue 1 is a small dwarf galaxy that orbits the Milky Way, possibly a globular cluster.

Although Segue 1 has few visible stars, it exerts a thousand times stronger gravity and thus has a thousand-fold higher mass than they would suggest based on their luminosity. It is thus one of the most extreme examples of a galaxy with dark matter.

The Galaxy is one of many almost invisible galaxies that were discovered in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. These galaxies contain about 100 to 1000 times as much dark matter as visible matter. In contrast, the Milky Way contains about 10 times as much dark matter as visible matter.
