Senohrad

Senohrad ( until 1927 slovak " Senohrady "; Hungarian Szénavár - to 1892 Szenograd ) is a city and a municipality in central Slovakia, with 780 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) and is located in Okres Krupina, kraj a circle of Banskobystrický. Its name literally means " Heuburg ".

Geography

Senohrad located in the highlands Krupinská Planina extending to the south valley of the brook Litava, at an altitude of 592 m nm and is located right next to the military base read. The city center is 15 kilometers from Krupina and 31 km away from Zvolen.

History

In the municipality there are finds from the Roman period ( 2nd / 3rd century). The town itself was first mentioned in 1135 as Zenerag, 1262 then as Senograd. 1779 broke out in the city from a devastating fire that devastated the entire village. The population engaged in farming, sheep and cattle, and there were also some forge.
