Hontianske Nemce

Hontianske Nemce ( until 1948 slovak " Nemce "; Nemtze German, Hungarian Hontnémeti - to 1907 Németi ) is a town in central Slovakia.

It lies in the valley at the foot of the Štiavnica Selmec mountains, 10 km from Krupina. In addition to the main town of the municipality also includes the villages of Rakovec (1913 amalgamated ) and Sitnianska Lehôtka (1990 amalgamated ).

The first written mention was made in 1246 as a villa Nympti, 1256 Nemeti is mentioned. The name probably refers to the German colonists who settled here in search of gold and silver. Due to the invasion of the Turks in 1543 and the decline of mining, the German inhabitants are assimilated already in the late Middle Ages by the Slovaks. Due to its location but the place remained an important market place on the road between the castle Hont and cities Altsohl and carp, as he was in 1729 awarded the right to hold market six days a year.

Until 1918, the municipality in the county of Hont the Kingdom of Hungary belonged and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia.

Worth seeing are the Catholic Church from the 13th century, a Marian column in the Rococo style from the second half of the 18th century and the Kalvarienweg from the first half of the 18th century.

The Slovak actor Marián Labuda was born in 1944 in the village.
