Sergi López Segú

Sergi López Segú ( born October 6, 1967 in Granollers, † November 4, 2006 ibid ), also known as Sergi, was a Spanish footballer.

His brother Gerard López is also football player.

Career

Sergi since his youth has been playing for FC Barcelona. His pro debut, he completed on January 31, 1988 with a 1-1 draw against UD Las Palmas. With Barcelona he was Spanish champion in 1991, won in 1988 and 1990, the Spanish Cup and the 1989 European Cup Winners' Cup. In 1991 he moved to RCD Mallorca. From 1992 to 1995 he was active for Real Zaragoza, where he again won the Spanish Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup. In 1995, he had to hang up his boots at the age of only 27 years. Overall, Sergi denied 71 Erstligaeinsätze.

After his football career Sergi moved to Argentina, where he married and his wife gave birth to his son. Later, the marriage broke up, and in connection with his early career end Sergi became depressed. On November 4, 2006 Sergi ended his own life by throwing himself in Granollers near Barcelona before a train.
