Servet Tazegül

Servet Tazegül (* 26 September 1988 in Nuremberg) is a Turkish Taekwondoin Azerbaijanis from Kars. It starts in the weight category up to 68 kilograms.

Tazegül began his athletic career in his hometown club at KSC Leopard Nuremberg. Immediately on his first international title bouts, the Junior World Championship 2004 in Suncheon, he won in his weight class title. A year later he was able to win even the European Junior Champion in Baku. The breakthrough in the international forefront in the adult area, finally succeeded Tazegül in 2008. Superior in Rome he won the European Championship in Istanbul, he won the European Olympic Qualification Tournament and competed in the Olympic Games in Beijing. There he was eliminated in the quarterfinals to eventual Olympic champion Son Tae- jin, but reached via the repechage the fight for third place. After a victory over Peter López he finally won the bronze medal. At the 2009 World Championships Tazegül reached the semifinals and won bronze with his first World Championship medal.

In the following years Tazegül dominated the championships in his weight class. Each with final victories over Filip Grgic he won the gold medal at the European Championships 2010 in Saint Petersburg and in 2012 in Manchester. Also in the 2011 World Championships in Gyeongju he won the finals and was first world champion. Tazegül won 2011 the international Olympic qualification tournament in Baku and secured a starting spot for his second Olympic Games 2012 in London. In London Tazegül moved into the finals, where he sat down against the Iranians Mohammad Bagheri Motamed with six to five points through. Thus Tazegül was the first Turkish Taekwondo Olympic champion.
