Sham 69
Sham 69 is a British punk band, which was founded in 1975 in Hersham, Surrey. Her biggest success was the band in 1978 with the title If the Kids Are United, with whom they called rival youth gangs on the agreement.
The name is a Ehrerweis for the local football club " Walton & Hersham FC" and originated when Jimmy Pursey, the singer of the band, half faded graffiti with the words " Walton & Hersham '69 ", an allusion to win the title of the club in 1969, read at a public men's room. History
The band was founded by singer and songwriter Jimmy Pursey with guitarist Dave Parsons, bassist Albie Slider and drummer Mark Cain. They gave their first concert in the " Guildford University ," then played at every available opportunity, in London's Roxy Club and as the opening act of Chelsea, The Lurkers and The Cortinas in the " Acklam Hall ". There they were discovered by John Cale, which they further mediated. Their first single I Do not Wanna yet appeared at the small label " Step Forward " while they signed for the first album Tell Us the Truth in the spring of 1978 by Polydor.
