The Dropkick Murphys are a founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1996 Irish- American folk - punk band.
The band refers to their music style as a mix of punk rock, Irish folk, rock and hardcore punk.
Published in 1998, the Murphys after numerous singles and splits with Do or Die their first album. Immediately after its release, vocalist Mike McColgan the band to fulfill a long-held dream: He was fireman at the Boston Fire Department. His successor was the singer of the Bruisers, Al Barr. (Fireman McColgan, however, 2002 decided to turn back to the music business, and founded the punk band " Street Dogs ". )
After their second album, The Gang 's All Here, guitarist Rick Barton returned in 1999 the Dropkick Murphys back. His self-chosen successor was James Lynch of the " Ducky Boys".
Even before the third album, Sing Loud, Sing Proud, the band by Mark Orell, Spicy MacHaggis (which is later replaced by Scruffy Wallace ) and Ryan Foltz (which is later replaced by Tim Brennan ) was amplified. On this album are also guest appearances by Shane MacGowan, singer of the Irish folk band The Pogues, and to find Colin McFaull, lead singer of Oi band Cock Sparrer. MacGowan sings the hymns Good Rats and Wild Rover.
On the album Blackout there is a rock version of the famous Irish song Fields of Athenry across the Irish famine middle of the 19th century. In addition, a punk rock version of the Irish folk song The Black Velvet to find band.
Dropkick Murphys occur frequently, every year since 2001, when St. Patrick's Day Festival in Boston.
In 2005, the band released a ballad version of Fields of Athenry in memory of the late U.S. soldier Sgt Andrew Farrar, whose funeral they played the song live. In the same year the album The Warrior 's Code, among other things, I'm Shipping Up to Boston with the text of Woody Guthrie appeared.
The band is in Martin Scorsese's film The Departed - The Departed represented with the title I'm Shipping Up to Boston on the soundtrack. This title is also used in The Simpsons in the episode Debarted - played Under rats.
On 18 September 2007 the album The Meanest of Times appeared. It was her first album, which was not published by HellCat Records. On 17 October 2007 the album in Japan on Solitary Man Records was published.
January 21, 2008 Marc Orrell announced that he is leaving the band because he wants to continue his own style of music in the future. Tim Brennan occurs as a guitarist since then its successor, while as a new member Jeff DaRosa takes the old responsibilities of Brennan.
On 16 March 2010, the live album "Live on Lansdowne " was released. The recordings were taken to Boston from March 12 to March 17, 2009 in six consecutive days in the land Dome. The album consists of live CD and live DVD.

On January 14, 2011, Murphy announced the release of their new album " Going Out in Style" for March 1, 2011. The album is about the Irish immigrant Cornelius and according to the band is a party album. Guest musicians are represented, among others, Fat Mike ( NOFX ) and Bruce Springsteen.
2012 played the Dropkick Murphys for the first time at the festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park and at numerous other festivals in Europe. Through these performances, the Dropkick Murphys have increased their popularity in Europe again.
On 8 November 2012, the video was released in advance of the new album Signed and Sealed in Blood Rose Tattoo on the Youtube channel of the band. For the music video of the single " Rose Tattoo ," cried the band to their fans on to send photos of the band logo on the band or to be puncture the band logo as a tattoo and to document it on video. Many photos and fan videos were published in the music video. On the homepage of the band's single " Rose Tattoo " can be downloaded for free as an MP3 file. The album was released on 8 January 2013.
