Sherman Page

Sherman Page ( born May 9, 1779 Cheshire, Connecticut, † September 27, 1853 in Unadilla, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1833 and 1837 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Sherman Page was born during the Revolutionary War in Cheshire. He attended community schools. In 1799 he taught at a school in Coventry. He studied law. His admission to the bar he received in 1805 and then began in Unadilla in Otsego County to practice. In 1827 he sat in the New York State Assembly. He was Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Otsego County. Politically, he was a member of the Jacksonian Group.

In the congressional elections of 1832 for the 23rd Congress Page was in the 19th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William Hogan on March 4, 1833. He was re-elected once and then retired after the March 3, 1837 from the Congress of. As a Congressman he had presided over the Committee on Public Expenditures ( 24th Congress ).

On September 27, 1853, he died in Unadilla. He was buried in St. Matthew 's Cemetery.
