Shigeru Umebayashi

Shigeru Umebayashi (Japanese梅林 茂, Shigeru Umebayashi, born February 19, 1951 in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture) is a Japanese film composer. He composed music for over 40 films from Japan and China, and in particular created some soundtracks for films by director Wong Kar- Wai.

Life

Umebayashi began in 1985 with his work as a film composer. Previously, he was the frontman of the Japanese new-wave rock band EX.

Outside Asia Umebayashi has become known primarily through collaboration with Wong Kar- Wai in the films In the Mood for Love ( 2001) and the sequel in 2046 ( 2004). The song Lovers Movie House Of Flying Daggers was sung by soprano Kathleen Battle.
