Shinawatra University

The Shinawatra University ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย ชิน วัตร, Shinawatra University, in short: SIU) is a university in Pathum Thani, Thailand. The University was founded, and co-financed by Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister of Thailand.

General

The Shinawatra University only offers international courses, that is, the courses are taught in English. The university offers a wide range of courses in engineering and the natural sciences as well as a related management education.

The Shinawatra University wants to help, to use creative and enterprising people through a broad education. The training concept is associated with the life of the founder, who has studied abroad themselves and a successful businessman who has been in the technology sector. President of the university is Prinya Tantaswadi.

History

Thaksin Shinawatra founded the University in 1996. Purpose he donated one billion baht ( 20 million euros ) from the family fortune. The Ministry of University Affairs issued the license for the University in 1999.

Its first president was Purachai Piumsombun. He was followed Sangsan Panit (2000 to 2002), Wittaya Manawicharoen (2002 to 2003) and Thanong Bidaya (2003 to 2004). Currently Somchat Soponronnarit is president of Shinawatra University.

Academic organization

There are two branches of the organization. The one serving the technology and science sectors, the other the administrative sector.

School of Technology

In the School of Technology, among others, the following courses are offered:

Campus

The central campus of Shinawatra University is located in the district ( Amphoe ) Sam Khok province ( Changwat ) Pathum Thani, about 50 kilometers north of the capital Bangkok. The modern buildings are characterized among other things by energy-efficient construction.
