Shire of Richmond

Geography

The Shire is located in the center of the country about 1250 km north- west of the capital Brisbane.

Administrative headquarters of the LGA is Richmond with about 550 inhabitants. Other towns are Albion, Burleigh, Cambridge, Carrar, Maxwelton and Woolgar.

History

The area around 1862 and in the following years was explored settled slowly. Significance was Richmond especially as a stopover to the gold fields to the north. From 1910 to 1954 was the administrative area Wyangarie Shire and then received its present name.

Management

The Richmond Shire Council has five members. The Mayor ( mayor) and four other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
