SIAI-Marchetti SF.260

The Aermacchi SF -260 (or SIAI Marchetti SF -260 ) is a small airplane that is used as a Stunt Plane or military training aircraft.

History

The Aermacchi SF -260 was designed by Stelio Frati, originally for Aviamilano. The first flight took place on 15 July 1964. The machine was originally produced by SIAI - Marchetti in series, but was taken over by Aermacchi in 1997. The military version is used in many smaller states. With the new version of SF- 260EA training aircraft has a renaissance experienced in recent years ( the Italian Air Force in 2005 replaced all of their SF- 260AM by 30 new machines in the EA version ).

In September 1981, a Libyan SF- 260SW were shot down by anti-aircraft defense in Libyan air strikes on the Sudanese towns of El Tine and Kolbus on the border with Chad.

In the U.S., the aircraft was sold under the name Waco Meteor, but had nothing to do with the company WACO.

Civil version

Approximately 860 SF -260 were produced, of which about 180 civilian versions. Most civil aircraft have private owners, some serve with the Belgian Air Sabena as a training aircraft.

Technical data ( SF- 260C )

The aircraft is designed as a conventional low-wing monoplane with a tricycle frame. In addition to the pilot and two passengers, a student pilot may be taken.

The F -260 holds the speed records over 100 km and 1000 km round trip in her class.
