Sidney Hickox

Sidney Hickox ( born July 17, 1895 in New York City; † May 16, 1982 in La Cañada ) was an American cinematographer.

Life

Hickox began in 1915 with the work as a camera assistant. In 1917 he was drafted into the army and joined there a camera unit. After the war, he started as a cameraman. His work has been hardly observed. This changed only at the beginning of the 1930s, when he was obliged by Warner Bros.. When his best work in 1946 resulting film is viewed Big Sleep, in which he performed the camera work for Howard Hawks. 1955 Hickox moved into television, where he was responsible for almost all the episodes of the Andy Griffith Show. In 1971, he finished his career.
