Síle de Valera

Síle de Valera ( born December 17, 1954 in Dublin) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician.

Biography

Síle de Valera is the granddaughter of Éamon de Valera, the long-time Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) and President of Ireland. She is also a cousin of the politician Éamon Ó Cuív.

They even worked as a teacher of vocational guidance, but began early political career as a candidate of the Fianna Fáil in 1977 with their first election as a member of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ). There she was a representative of the constituency of Dublin County Mid youngest member and took over from Enda Kenny the unofficial title " Baby of the Dáil ." At the same time she was between June 1979 and June 1984 member of the 1st European Parliament. However, in the general election, 1981, she suffered a defeat and resigned from the House first again.

In 1987 she was re-elected to the House and took there after four subsequent re- elections until 2007 the constituency of Clare.

After the election victory of Fianna Fáil, she was on 26 June 1997 by Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, Minister for Arts, appointed inheritance, Irish -speaking areas ( Gaeltacht ) and the islands and held that office until 18 June 2002. Subsequently she was Minister of State in Ministry of Education and Science, while her cousin Éamon Ó Cuív was succeeded as Minister for Community, Rural and irish-speaking areas. On December 8, 2006, she resigned as Minister of State and opted not to run again in the general election of 2007.
